Before Deployment

Building General Survey Projects

The Teaching Assistant role has the ability to build and launch general survey projects. An instructor could want the students in her/his class to take a pre-course survey, post-course survey, a midterm survey, or a survey on any given topic in the course.

First, meet with your professor to establish various aspects of the project, such as what questions should be on the survey, and the start and end dares for students to have access.

Here are the other aspects of project set up:

  • Set properties
  • Select users (students who will take the survey)
  • Create, test (preview), then attach, the survey
  • Set up reminder e-mail communications
  • Set up report settings
  • Deploy the project

NOTE: While general survey projects in CES are available, UNL's best practice recommendation for general surveys is to use Qualtrics. Click here to get more information about Qualtrics.

During Deployment

Increased response rates can be encouraged by giving students a heads up prior to the survey start date and periodic reminders during the deployment period. Paired with concise reasons why the evaluation is being deployed, how it will benefit the instructors, and how it will benefit the students, the face to face reminder can be a strong influence on getting participation for an online evaluation. Even though CES has automated tech "prompts" in the form of emails and Canvas notifications, having an instructor (or TA) remind students to do them can be much more persuasive.

After Deployment

The results from the survey will be made available 15 days after the end of the term (fall and spring semesters), and 11 days after the end of the term (summer sessions). After the results are made available, you can view, generate and download reports from the results page of the project.
